Mouse man progression part 2

Spray painted base layer colors for each of the body pieces. Pro tip- black electrical tape is perfect for masking areas. It bends well to the contours of the vinyl and it peels up easily.

Mouse man progression part 1

This is a project I'm working on for the upcoming Adult Swim tribute show at Gallery1988. I'm doing a Dangerdoom inspired Qee. Someone mentioned to me that taking pictures of the progression might be a good idea. I agreed so here we are! Part 1, disassembly and sanding of the Qee (sorry Frank Kozik's Anar-qee, you were cheaper and easier to come by than a blank DIY qee). Pro tip-hit the vinyl toy with a hairdryer for a few minutes and the limbs pop right out.

PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET!

This Sunday I will be selling my wares at the Punk Rock Flea Market holiday Edition! If you're in the Philly area, come swing by, say sup and buy a print or two. Below are some details about the event.

THE PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET – HOLIDAY EDITION

It's that time again for the bi-annual (twice a year) PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET. R5's most popular reoccurring event/show/whatever (by far). They had over 3500 visitors and 250+ tables of  old records, clothes, art, music, food, junk, bicycles, stereo equipment, instruments, automobiles, tools, posters, furniture, computers, skateboards and lots of other stuff last summer. It's all going down at THE PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET DOME which is a brand new giant warehouse located right across the street from The Starlight Ballroom.

It's the biggest location  yet  - giving them ability to host over 250 vendors in one single room - including yours truly. All proceeds raised will go to the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies to ensure that all ages shows continue to remain a reality at The First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia - mainly an annual payment for their liability insurance policy. Do not let the "name of the event" lead you to believe that it's just punk records, clothes etc. - it's a full on flea market with everything from furniture, to laptops / computers , to stereo equipment, to handmade apparel, to vegan treats, information from various non-profit groups, book stores, artists selling their work, bicycles & skateboards and whatever else they can fit onto the floor at this brand new location.

Venue Information:
THE PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET-DOME

Pee Wee Show Pics

Here are some pics from opening night of the Pee Wee Herman Tribute Show at Gallery1988. Pics are courtesy of gallery friend Johnny Cupcakes. The show turned out great!

CMYK Show at A x D Gallery

Show pics from the opening of Attack of the CMYK at A x D Gallery. The show runs till September 3rd.

CMYK Images....Finally

Here are my pieces for the Attack of CMYK show that is currently going on at A x D Gallery in Philadelphia (265 S. 10th Street). This project really kicked my ass. After heading in one direction and not liking where it was going, I did a 180 two weeks before the deadline and completely changed everything. On top of that I had a lot of problems with burning screens. The insane heat and humidity coupled with a new emulsion brand made things very difficult and I ended up having to reburn 9 screen and do all printing in three and a half days. Thankfully, everything was done in time and all the prints look pretty darn good. Above are the digital versions of my pieces. For some reason speedballs Process cyan is way darker than real cyan so the prints look a bit different. But with only three days to get things done, beggers can't be choosers.

Some people may notice that I brought an old favorite out of retirement for this project. When I heard that the name of the show was actually called Attack of CMYK I knew I had to do something with monsters. I felt the Robot flying a kite over Philadelphia piece was a perfect fit. So I based the other two pieces off the same premise. They're not so much attacking as they are just doing their thing.

The show will be up till September 3rd. Enjoy!

Small update, not sure what you would call this, but Blick Art Store in Philadelphia has a local artist feature wall and this month I have a piece on it (as well as other Autumn Society members). Should be up for at least a month and possibly longer.

Pee-Wee Tribute Show

Hello all, here is the piece I did for the Gallery1988 Pee-Wee Herman Tribute Show. Before I started, I re-watched the movie to get inspiration and I had forgotten how much bike and dinosaur goodies are in it. Being a dinosaur and bicycle guy myself I just had to add them to my tribute piece. Its a five color screen print and is about 8.5" x 16". Look for it come August at gallery1988! Enjoy!

Studio update: A tad messy!

Typical of what my studio looks like mid project. I really enjoyed this project and relearned quite a bit about screen printing in the process. Very little frustration with this one, hopefully the next one goes this smooth.

An Ocean life for me!

Hey all! Here's my new screen print for the upcoming Benefit show: From Whence We Came. It runs from July 8th to August 10th at Benna’s cafĂ© (1236 South 8th ST, Philly) and is curated by Ryann Casey. The opening is Friday, July 8 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Turtle Power!

Here is my piece for the TMNT tribute Show. Shell Shocked opens June 3rd at Brave New Worlds Comic shop from 6-9pm. Should be a good time, lots of good pieces so far.

This piece fought me a bit, I'm still re-learning how to screen print. Still I think it came out alright. Brave New Worlds is located 42 N 2nd ST, Philadelphia and is part of Old Cities First Friday. Hope to see you out there!

Success!

The 3B show opening was a couple nights ago and I guess it pretty well. Gallery1988 has asked me to be a part of some more upcoming group shows! Ever since their I Am 8-bit show a few years back it's been my goal to get my work in their gallery. Not only have I now done this but they asked me for more! I'm very happy to say the least. I think I'll have a celebratory bowl of Marshmallow Mattie's! While I'm pouring a bowl feel free to take a look a few picks from the show. More details of the upcoming shows soon.

3B show at Gallery 1988

I'm lucky to be a part of the upcoming 3B show at Gallery 1988. Beetlejuice, Back to the Future and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure comprise the three B's. Its presented by The Autumn Society and so far from what I've seen, there are a lot of great pieces in it. The show opens May 5th and runs till June 3rd. These prints will be on sale at the gallery and on their website. For more info visit: http://www.nineteeneightyeight.com/

First post and studio!

So this is my first official post for what is to be my news and general info blog. And I guess the best way to kick things off is to post a couple pics of my studio (I feel like its the mandatory thing to to for any artist starting out a blog). Took some time but finally got it set up the way I want it. The next mission is to get stuff on the walls. If anything this will be a reminder of what a clean studio looks like cause I know it wont stay this way for long.
