Official Preacher Print!

Up for grabs is a very special poster I did for Gallery 1988, AMC and Preacher, their new hit show. Preacher airs every Sunday night on AMC. After each episode, Gallery 1988 debuts an official, limited edition screen print depicting a scene from said episode. I was lucky enough to be asked to design a poster for episode nine which aired last Sunday! The edition is limited to 150 (only 100 are for sale) so get one before they’re gone. You can go to http://nineteeneightyeight.com/collections/preacher check out all the other cool screen prints as well.

WELCOME TO EARTH!

20 Years Later is a retrospective on all the amazing movies that came out in 1996. The show opened last Friday at Gallery1988. These three prints are inspired by Independence Day. The new movie may have bombed but don’t let that taint your memories of the original! These are two color, hand pulled screen prints that measure 5.25x 7.25. Each design comes in an edition of 30.  For more info on the show and other great works visit gallery1988.com

Holiday Update

Sorry for the lack of updates over the last few months, here are a bunch to get you through to the new year.

First off, my etsy store has been updated for the Christm….. Holiday season. Visit www.etsy.com/shop/djlaroccaART to take a gander. There’s some fun stuff fresh off the gallery walls. A few things have been reduced in price as well.

On December 5th I’ll be part of the 33.3 show at gallery1988 (EAST). Over a 100 artist reinterpret and reimagine famous album covers. I did 5 color, hand pulled screen print inspired by the Deltron 3030 cover. It measure 12x12 and comes in an edition of 24. The show runs for about a month. Head over to nineteeneightyeight.com for more info.

On December 12th I will once again be a part of gallery1988’s annual Crazy 4 Cult show. After two years on the east coast, the show is back in Los Angeles at g1988(West). My piece is inspired by the darker (and perhaps better) alternate ending of Little Shop of Horrors. Its a three color, hand pulled screen print. It measures 12x16 and comes in an edition of 32. The show runs for about a month. Head over to nineteeneightyeight.com for more info.

And finally on December 13th I will be selling my wares at the Crafty Balboa holiday craft fair. Doors open at 11am and don’t close till 5pm. Many prints will be heavily discounted. If your in the South Philly area, swing by to say hi, buy something from me or the many other talented artists and do me a favor watch my stuff while I visit the bathroom. Check out www.craftybalboa.com for more info.

8 Bit Video Game Art Show

Here are my two pieces for the upcoming old school video game themed art show at gallery1988 (Venice). The show opens Friday October 26th and runs for about a month.

The first is a four panel acrylic painting on wood. Each panel is 12" x 12". I actually did this piece a couple years ago with the hope that someday it would be a part of g1988's I am 8-bit shows. I'm glad I could finally dust it off and get it out of my basement.

The second piece is a print I just finished up on to go with my koopa toopa series. Its a three color, hand pulled screen print measuring 19" x 12". Both will be on sale through g1988's website at nineteeneightyeight.com

Video Games/Cult Movies

A pair of pieces to show to you today. First up is a print I did for Gallery 27's current show, "This Will Increase Your X" The theme is a clever spin on the usual pop/video game theme with pieces inspired by video game power up! My print is based on the blue shells of death from the MarioKart series.
It's the 3 color print and is about 11"x15.5" in size. The show opened last Friday and will be up for about a month. Visit gallery27chicago.com for more info.

Next print is for the upcoming Crazy 4 Cult show in NYC. That's right, gallery 1988 has taken their show on the road and brought their signature event to the east coast. Opening reception is August 9th from 6-9pm at 64 Gansevoort St, NY, NY 10014. Show runs for about a month. My piece is inspired by "Little Shop of Horrors" and the various store posters that were in the window of Mushnik's throughout the movie. For more info visit nineteeneightyeight.com

I just blue myself

A little late to the party as the show opened last Friday (sorry, combination of vacation and laziness). Here is my piece for Gallery1988's show "There is Always Money in the Banana Stand". I (and it seems many others) have a special appreciation for David Cross and his Tobias Fünke character. I wanted to recreate his head shot from the series and show off the characters acting range.

The show is up for a month. Bad news- gallery1988 is already sold out of the unframed prints I sent them. Good news- I have more! They'll be on my etsy page after the show comes down. Enjoy!

"Excuuuuse Meeeeeeeee" a tribute to Steve Martin

Here's my print for Gallery 1988's upcoming tribute show to Steve Martin. It's a three color, hand pulled screen print. It measures about 10.25" x 16" and has an edition of 35.

This was a lot of fun to work on. Not only is Mr. Martin one of my favorite actors but Parenthood is one of my favorite movies from my childhood. Although after re-watching it I can safely say that I didn't understand half the movie or the jokes when I was a kid. Especially grandmas innuendoes. Anyway, hopefully people get the reference as I know its not one of his most well known films.

The show opens Friday, June 9th and runs for about a month at Gallery 1988, Venice.

He went Extinct for your sins!

Here is my contribution to the upcoming g1988 show "Memes, a tribute to the internet's favorite creations". The show opens this friday at 7020 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90038. Its one of the more ridiculous show ideas in a while and I'm glad I could be a part of it. Its also g1988's 8th anniversary so its sure to be a good time. I had a lot of fun with this project. This handsome Raptor Jesus is a 4 color hand pulled screen print. Show runs for about a month and remember to hide your sin, he's learned to open doors.

More Suntory time prints now at Gallery1988

Hot off the presses (kinda) more Suntory time! prints have arrived at gallery1988 (with even more on the way for next week). Call for availability as they may have not updated their shop status yet.

Also, Electric Playground has a segment about the show. It starts about 18 minutes and 31 seconds into the program if you don't want to watch the whole thing.

Don't blink or you may miss my print.
